After a long
hard Indiana winter, we are starting to see some signs of spring. Warmer weather means baseball is around the
corner and Spring Training has commenced.
This year Reb will be playing in the Mooresville Baseball League (MBL). Mooresville has a fantastic baseball program and the 11-12 year old league plays with the 50-70 modified High School rules.
Reb has
begun baseball workouts and is looking much improved from a year ago. The velocity on his fastball has shown
remarkable improvement but it is his change-up that is attention grabbing. He has also been working on a curveball and today
was dramatically improved over the course of our four throwing days over the past
week. All the work we put into his
mechanics last year is starting to pay off.
Defensively
he has also elevated his game with much improved positioning, mechanics both
with fielding and throwing. He has
always showed signs of having a good glove but is showing the potential of
being very sound defensively.
We have a
lot of work ahead to improve his hitting but have only just started putting in
any work at the plate. We have begun
working on his bunting skills and as our workouts progress he will start
putting more time in the cage. Our goal
is to improve contact as he is not at this stage going to be a power
hitter. However, to utilize his
quickness we need to improve his contact at the plate this year.
This is a
fun time of year and we are already starting to enjoy more time on the diamond
in God’s beautiful creation. As you
begin getting ready for the 2014 season, practice hard, practice the right way
and it will reap dividends come game time.
